Homeward Bound - The Incredible Journey (Walt Disney Pictures Presents) [VHS]

Homeward Bound - The Incredible Journey (Walt Disney Pictures Presents) [VHS]This remake of 1963's The Incredible Journey gets a boost from the voice talent that brings its central characters to life. Don Ameche, Michael J. Fox, and Sally Field are, respectively, the voices of an old dog, a young dog, and a cat, all of whom coexist in a single household. Uneasy housemates at the best of times, they are forced to learn to rely on each other when the family relocates across country and they are left behind. So they set out on foot to find their family and discover their own strengths--both as individuals and as a team--while trekking to catch up with their humans. Well-trained animals and some feisty give-and-take between Fox and Field give this movie its charm, making it decidedly lovable family fare. --Marshall Fine

Jan 1, Dog Eye Problems, Symptoms and Care Tips - Pictures of Cloudy, Cherry eyes, Third Eyelid and Glaucoma

Dog eye problems can be relatively common occurrences, and there are a variety of them that occur most frequently.

Dog health

Dog eye care is essential for pet owners because unlike you they cannot simply remove any foreign objects from their eyes themselves, and they can't directly alert you to pain they are in. Therefore you have to be attentive to symptoms and you should work on keeping your dog as healthy as possible with preventative and maintenance dog eye care to prevent worsening conditions.

Dog Eye Problem
Pictures shows a dog with an irritating eye.

Many dog eye problems can be easily prevented with some very easy and light maintenance and care. For example, taking just a moment once per day to use a clean, damp cloth to wipe away the buildup of gunk around your dog's eyes can help prevent irritations and infections. Gently use a wet cloth to wipe the area clean and be careful to not rub, poke or scratch the actual eye.

You should also be sure to keep the hair under and around the corner of the eyes short and well kept as well. The hair itself could begin to poke, bother or scratch the eyes, or the presence of the hair can prevent the proper disposal of some of that eye buildup and gunk. Of course, if you trim the hair yourself always do it in a downward direction, in other words never have the tip of the scissors pointed toward your pooch's eye. Even a calm dog could suddenly jerk, move or twitch leading to serious potential eye injury.

Dog Eye Care

First of all it's simply bound to happen that your dog at some point will get irritated eyes as a result of contact with some other kind of object or material, or even as the result of some kind of foreign object being embedded into their eyes. If your dog irritated, reddened, slightly swollen or inflamed eyes and so forth, you can try to flush out the eyes yourself.

You can use a contact lens solution, a pre-made saline solution or a quick salt solution you can make on your own. Just mix in a teaspoon of salt into a pint of water. Then dampen a clean cloth, cleaning the eye area gently. You can also use an eye dropper to get some of that solution directly into the eyes.

If you see that there is actually something stuck in the eyes, you will want to go see the vet as soon as possible. There could already be small and damaging scratches or there could even be corneal ulcers. The dog may need to receive some anesthesia and undergo a brief surgical procedure to remove something that's really stuck up there.

Don't try to do this yourself because you need to be careful and precise and your dog could be in significant. It's a situation where the proper dog eye care is really administered by the vet, although you can check for the problem existing, looking for any foreign objects you can directly see, or noticing symptoms such as swelling of the eyes, tearing and even blood.

There are certain dog breeds such as beagles, cocker spaniels, Pekingese, and bulldogs are more proned in getting an eye conditon calls Cherry Eyes. Cherry eye is a prolapse of the gland of the third eyelid. Dermatitis, bacteria, parasite or fungal infections may cause inflammation of the eyelids. This makes gland protrudes and becomes irritated. The normal treatment for cherry eye is surgical replacement of the gland.

Another one of the common dog eye problems that you may run across is a cataract. Cataracts in dogs are essentially the same as they are in people, the lens becomes cloudy and opaque, which can significantly hamper vision and even lead to blindness in severe cases.

It's important to catch this problem as early as possible, and this can be done by regular veterinarian check ups. Additionally, keep notice if your dog seems to be struggling to maneuver around. The lens can actually be removed through surgery, although the condition cannot be completely cured. In the majority of circumstances, cataracts are genetic conditions, although trauma and injury could also create these kinds of dog eye problems.

Another serious dog eye problem is Glaucoma. It is a condition where increased pressure within the eye. The pressure causes the eye to stretch and enlarge which will cause eye blindness later on. Glaucoma is an inheritable disease and is common for a couple of dog breeds like cocker spaniels, chow chows and labrador retrievers.

These are some of the more common and basic dog eye problems that you'll encounter and it's important to be familiar with them. You can prevent a lot of hassle and aggravation for you and your pooch by practicing preventative dog eye care and by being attentive to early warning signs and other symptoms. Most problems can be easily fixed, although some like severe cataracts have serious long term consequences.

Feb 4, How to Train a Chihuahua - Teacup Chiwawa Dog Breed Information, Names, Pictures and Training

Jump to the Chihuahua Training Tips.

Chihuahuas are often described as charming, attentive and swift-moving small little dogs.

Small Dogs

Although they are small, their intelligence and braveness should not be underestimated. Besides that, their big shinning dark eyes and large erect ears have captured the hearts of many dog owners. These characteristics of Chi dogs are believed to be inherited from their ancestor - Fennec Fox.

These foxy looking dogs are popular companion dogs with alert and terrier-like qualities.

Chihuahuas are good family dogs but not great with children. These small dogs are also very protective of family, so, strangers are advised to keep a distance away from these dogs. The best thing about Chiwawas is they are city dogs which require less exercise compare to other dog breeds. So, you are expecting your Chi dog to be comfortable easily with living in an apartment or a condominium.

How to Train a Chihuahua

In general, Smooth-coated Chi dogs have short and straight hair while Long-coated Chi dogs have long and wave-like hair.

Some books suggests that long-coated Chihuahuas are product from the crossing between smooth-coated and Papillon dog breed or Yorkshire Terrier dog breed. Thus, some long-coated Chi dogs show very obvious butterfly-like ears (Papillon).

Like any other dog breeds, Chihuahua needs to learn how to behave. You should learn how to train a Chihuahua by house training your chihuahua puppy and also puppy obedience training.

Chihuahua vs Human
Height Chihuahua vs Human

Chihuahua is the smallest of all the dog breeds in the world. It is named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico and is very popular breed, particularly in America.

These small dogs were first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1904. They are also called by people with the name Chiwawas and Chi Dogs.

History and Origins
The History of Chiwawa is very hard to trace, but there is sufficient evidence to prove that it is originating from Pre-Columbian Mexico.

The most common theory is that Chiwawas are descended from the Techichi, a companion dog favored by the Toltecs and that the modern dog developed through breeding with miniaturized Chinese dogs brought to the Americas by the Spanish Conquistadors.

Compare with their ancestors, present day Chi Dogs are much smaller. Genetic tests have placed Chiwawas originating in the 1800s.

Group
If you are going to enter your dog for the dog show competition, it is especially important to know what group your dog belongs to in the Kennel Club of your country.

Chi Dog Breed is recognized as Toy Group under both American Kennel Club (AKC) and The Kennel Club (UK).

If you are like me, just want to have a good time with your dog, this information is not so important for you.

Living Condition
In general, Chihuahua does not like cold weather. So, put on a sweater on your dog during a chill weather. Since they are the smallest dogs in the world, they are suitable to live in an apartment or a condominium.

Exercise
Before you learn how to train a Chihuahua, it is important to know that Chihuahua training should come together with exercise. Chi's body is tiny, but it still needs to exercise.

I suggest exercising with you dog for 45 minutes daily. The lack of exercise might turn him becoming a frustrated dog which will release his energy into biting, barking and other dog behavior problems.

Remember that all dogs are NOT meant to be confined in a location. Even if you have a big backyard, your dog still needs to go out and explores the outside world.

Shedding
All dogs shed. Smooth-coated Chi dogs shed more frequently than long-coated. Long-coated Chi dogs shed seasonally, about twice yearly.

General Appearance
The two basic body types of purebred these small dogs are Apple headed or Deer headed.

Apple-headed Chi Dogs have short noses, an apple shaped head, and close-set eyes, while Deer-headed Chi Dogs have an elongated nose that resembles Doberman Pinschers. They both have the same chance of being teacup or miniature.

An in depth comparison about these two body types of Chihuahua will be discussed below this page. With the information, you are able to recognize instantly the advantages and disadvantages of that particular Chi Dog.

Nose
Color can be in Black, Pink or Chocolate.

Coat and Color
Chiwawa basically has only 2 varieties as shown on the pictures below:-

A detailed comparison is done below this page; you may use the information to help you make the right choice.

Weight: 3.3 - 6.6 pounds (1.5 - 3.0 kg)

Average Life Span

Average Litter Size
1 - 4 puppies

Characteristics/Temperaments and Energy level
As per AKC definition, Chihuahuas are graceful, alert and swift-moving with a saucy expression. They are projecting the 'terrier-like' attitudes of self importance, confidence, and self-reliance.

Chiwawa is one of the highest energy levels of any purebred dog. This is the reason why some owners always has problem on how to train a Chihuahua. The secret is Chihuahua training should come together with exercise.

Chi dogs like to give affection to their owners and also acts friendly to other pets. Long-coated Chi tend to be a little reserved and cautious when meeting with strangers for the first time.

If you are going to enter your Chihuahua for dog show competition, you should select the Apple-headed Chi dog as AKC disqualifies the Deer-headed Chi dog.

To help you understand better, I will show you 2 photos to distinguish the differences between 2 types of Chi dogs. Hope that I am able to help you to save some time on searching for such information from the Internet or the time to discuss with the breeders near your place.

The Chi dog is a special breed of dog that always wants to get your attention and will try his best to make you happy. But to make him a well-balanced dog, you need to teach him how to behave with puppy training.

The first sixteen weeks of your Chihuahua's life is crucial. Chi is a long life span dog that could live until eighteen years old. So, what you do in the beginning can shape them into either a well behaved companion or a dominant little dog.

Dogs are creatures that live in packs and every pack has a pack leader. It is a MUST for you to learn how to train a Chihuahua and recognize you as the pack leader. If you do not, your Chi will take the role as the pack leader and he will be in charge of the house.

You can begin with potty training, and encourage the behavior with treats. Remember that you should reward only when an order is obeyed. Once your Chihuahua potty training goal has been reached, move on to the next which is crate training. Crate training is important in establishing their territory and when praised and rewarded, your dog will look forward to learning a new lesson.
