Excessive Dog Barking or howling is one of the most common dog behavior problems that people complained.

Dog behavior

Some dog owners use the wrong way to stop the dog barking - they use punishment. This is because they do not understand that dog barking is completely normal, it is a way of communicating with his owner. The dog is trying to tell the owner something.

If you want to learn how to stop dog barking, you should understand and interpret the reasons your dog is barking.

How to Stop Dog Barking

The following are some possible reasons:-

Found a stranger is near your house
Saw an animal near your house
Wants to go out to pee/poo
Wants to have his meal
Wants to play due to bored or lonely
Without any reason

The first 3 reasons of barking are completely normal as long as your dog does not act too aggressively. If you dog is barking while charging aggressively at the stranger/animal near your house, you have to correct that behavior. This behavior is dangerous. If one day you forgot to close your gate, there is a chance that your dog will attack the stranger. Your dog could end up confine in Animal Care and Control and you might be sued.

Dog Bite Law's statistics has showed that there are average 1000 americans per day are treated in emergency rooms as a result of dog bites. Dog bites losses exceed $1 billion per year, with over $300 million paid by homeowners insurance. You definitely do not want your dog to be part of the statictics

Before you learn how to stop dog barking behavior, you have to interpret which category your dog falls into. Whatever is the reason, DO NOT punish your dog with cane or hand, this will only make things worse. Here are some suggestions that you may apply at home to correct the dog/puppy barking behavior:-

Stop Dog Barking

Understand what triggers your dog's aggressive barking behavior. (eg: animal or stranger).
Put your dog on leash and choke collar, simulate the triggering event and when your dog starts to bark, snap the leash while giving a serious face expression with a dog training command of your choice. Your dog will understand that behavior is not allowed
DO NOT pet your dog and telling your dog to calm down. If you are petting him at that time, you are actually encouraging that behavior.
After your dog has calm down, then only you may reward that behavior by petting or giving food reward.

Some dogs are smart and they know exactly when you are giving them food and play time. This is especially true if some time ago, you have given him food or play time after he barked. He will remember this and he will trick you into giving him food or play time by barking next time. Here are what you can do to stop this behavior:- Other than time factor, understand what other things that trigger the barking reaction. (eg: the smell of food, sound of your food step, or even sound of key).
Every time when the triggering factors come together, you should give him a warning and ask him to calm down.
If he can not calm down, then put him on leash and snap him out of his excitement to make him calm down.
If he has calm down, give him affection for being a good boy
If he calm down completely, then only give him what he wants
These steps will teach him to calm down in order to get what he wants

If your dog is barking without any reasons, it could due to dog frustration - lack of exercise. You should bring him for a morning walk (45 minutes to 1 hour) to drain his excessive energy. Watch him for a few days and see if there is any improvement. Next, whenever he barks, DO NOT pet him or give him food treat, this will further encourage the behavior. You should give him a warning with the dog command of your choice. When your dog has calm down, then only you reward his behavior.

Dec 13, Dog Flea Control - Frontline for Dogs Products Comparison and Review

Dog flea control is something that all dog owners should take seriously and be proactive about.

Dog health
With the right measures you can prevent any issues or flare ups before they arise, and you can therefore also prevent any of the serious potential health effects. However, you can also quickly take action to stop a problem when it does occur when you know the appropriate steps.

There are many different options for dog flea control, and the most common of which that you have probably already heard of is Frontline for dogs. Frontline is a brand of flea and tick prevention for dogs that has become the number 1 recommended option by veterinarians. This means that it's effective and safe, and that you will be able to count on it to get the job done for you.

Dog Flea Control

There are actually three different variations of Frontline. Normal Frontline or Frontline Topspot is a liquid that can be easily applied to your dog's back or neck between the shoulder blades. The solution will get to work immediately and it will continue to provide protection for 30 days or more. You should apply it before the start of flea and tick season as a means of preventive control. It kills off adult fleas that can bite and should get the job done before they get to work.

Frontline is sold in packages that contain individual doses, so you don't need to worry about how much to apply. There are options available for different size and weight ranges for you to choose between as well. It does not require any restriction of activity and your dog can even get wet or go swimming while retaining protection.

Frontline Plus is also a solution and it can be applied in the same fashion for dog flea control. However, Frontline Plus is also very effective for controlling lice and ticks as well, and it works on killing fleas in all stages of the lifecycle. This means that you not only prevent bites but also prevent outbreaks and ongoing problems, as well as problems from other more dangerous threats such as ticks.

Frontline Spray is typically used when your dog is already dealing with a flea problem that had not been prevented, and no other medications or substances have been used yet to combat the problem. The spray is used directly on the pet's skin and may also be used on areas such as carpets and dog beds that could be a part of the flea infestation as well.

Keep in mind that Frontline for dogs should not always be used regardless of individual factors. For example, it should not be used for puppies less than two or three months old. The spray version should not be used with dogs who are nursing, and older or weaker animals may also want to avoid this treatment. If you have any questions about what is appropriate always ask your vet for some advice about what to do and what will be the safest option for you and your pooch.

No, of course there are many various means and products for dog flea control. There are various topical creams and applications, there are flea collars and flea combs, shampoos, bath products and powders, flea bombs and flea foggers and so forth. Really there is an endless supply of these kinds of products and more, and the right ones for you to use will depend on the specific circumstances of your situation, and even the type of dog that you have including genetic factors, allergies (allergies in dogs), weight and size, disposition and so forth.

Dog Flea or Tick Control

Don't feel that you have to use any one individual product, you can use anything that works and is best for your needs. The thing to keep in mind however is that Frontline for dogs I regarded as being perhaps the single most effective option and as a result is the number 1 veterinarian recommended option for dog flea control, as mentioned.

It's easy for owners to get upset with the prospects of dog flea control, particularly when a problem arises as opposed to planned, easy prevention. However, it should be a manageable situation when you know what to do, and action is easy to take with a wide range of products. Frontline for dogs remains the number 1 recommended and used option, and is a solid choice to turn to.
